On Mothers Day we organised a fun-filled community matchday to commemorate the exciting new partnerships between Hummel, Football Beyond Borders, Wanderers and AFC Oldsmiths at the home of Waltham Forest F.C!
AFC Oldsmiths, a club founded in 2009, will be proudly joining Wanderers FC in having Football Beyond Borders emblazoned across their new Hummel kits. Wanderers Club Secretary Mark Wilson said “It was a great opportunity to bring AFC Oldsmiths into the Football Beyond Borders family and I know the contingent of Wanderers players who took part really enjoyed the amiable atmosphere.”
A combined Football Beyond Borders & Wanderers F.C. team took on AFC Oldsmiths in a competitive match for the inaugural Hummel Trophy. Hummel also provided a whole host of awesome football shirts and vouchers to raffle off with all proceeds from the day going towards FBB. The score was 1-0 to Oldsmiths at half-time after a wave of attacks from FBB were thwarted and an early finish from Oldsmiths put them in the lead. A tired end to the game from FBB lead to AFC Oldsmiths finishing up eventual 3-0 winners after an intense match.
Luis Mackness, AFC Oldsmiths Co-Founder and Chairman said “The event was a success for a number of reasons, firstly it raised money for FBB. That in short was exactly the point of the event. The atmosphere was superb, the sun always helps and so did the fact everyone on the pitch wanted to win! It was a delight to have family present as well as friends especially some mums given it was Mother’s Day! Everyone there was there to support either someone they care about or the work from FBB so it was a glorious atmosphere and the first of many we’ll be involved in hopefully. The Hummel partnership means an awful lot to us as we went after a brand a few of us have worn and loved for a long time. Credit to our very own Jon’ Mercer for taking a punt and getting that meeting because they have been a dream to work with. I think we share a lot of values and the resources they’ve provided have helped us to get where we want to go a lot quicker and all whilst looking absolutely boss doing it.”
Thanks to generous support from everyone in attendance and our corporate partner Hummel we raised over £800 for FBB which will help us to continue our work in schools!
