FBB Member, Student, Full Back
“Before joining FBB I believe I was an unholy cocktail of impulsiveness, waywardness and combativeness. Through FBB I have met individuals who have helped me streamline these unpredictable aspects of my personality, and nurture sides that I didn’t know existed. I also met men and women who depended upon me for their development as young adults.
FBB showed me that football has the social power to bring huge swathes people together on a very human level.
A large reason for my active involvement in the movement for Palestinian rights and self-determination came through the rich experiences I was lucky to have with FBB. “
Nick was a founder member of FBB in 2008 and played a central role in all of my projects until 2013. Nick joined FBB aged 18 and describes himself at that time as an unholy cocktail of impulsiveness, waywardness and combativeness. His experiences with FBB turned him into an effective social activist with a focus on human rights issues. Today he is studying an MA in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights at the University of Essex and leads a research project on the human rights in Iran.
In Nick’s five years with FBB he travelled to Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Ghana, Finland, Egypt, Palestine and Jordan. He also led the FBB campaign in support of the cancellation of the UEFA U’21 European Championships in Israel as part of a wider campaign to boycott Israel for its continuing occupation of Palestine.
Nick continues to play for the FBB All Stars team in their monthly ‘Play for a Cause’ matches.
