FBB Member, Student, Goalkeeper
“FBB was a life changing experience for me. It completely changed my way of thinking. I saw different cultures from all over the world and I managed to understand the a lot more about the impact of sports on our lives. I learned that sport is a language that anyone around the world can understand away from the diversity in cultures, religions, races or ethnicities. It is a way to deliver a message against oppression and racism. You can tell the whole world that you are there, living among them and that you are free.”
Omar joined FBB in 2011 as one of our hosts for the tour of Egypt and Palestine. Omar describes his involvement with FBB as a life changing experience which opened his mind to the power of football to change the world and allowed him to meet people from all over the world Omar says that his work with FBB gave him the confidence and desire to live abroad and today he is studying for a masters degree in Sweden.
Omar hosted the FBB team in Cairo in 2011 and played for the Egyptian university side in the 2011 London Tournament. During the London tournament, Omar gave a presentation about football in Egypt and about the revolution which had recently occurred. He still talks about this as the best day of his life: “I had the best moment of my life during the FBB tournament in London when I was giving a presentation about football in Egypt and about our great revolution. I was almost crying during the presentation and had goosebumps all over my body, it’s a feeling that I can’t describe. It was the best day in my life, telling people from different cultures about my identity and my revolution and I was the happiest person on earth when they responded with support and tears when they saw the martyrs of the revolution and the happy moments we had after succeeding. It’s a feeling that no words can describe. I always wish to live the same experience again.”
Now in Sweden, Omar continues to work with FBB and has begun the planning to bring a youth team from Cairo to Salvador de Bahia, Brazil for the FBB Legacy Games in September 2014.
