Football Beyond Borders features on The One Show
Football Beyond Borders are proud to have appeared on last week's edition of The BBC One Show. The programme explored the effects of footballers being released from academies at a young age, emphasising the work FBB does; incorporating a passion for football to change the lives of young people. Our Partnerships Manager, Kelvyn Quagraine, told The One Show: "We equip [young people] with the skills and grades they need to successfully transition into adulthood."It's vital that those educational roots are there so that [young footballers] aren't just dropped at 16 with no career prospects and no education qualifications to back them up. That plan b is really important," he said.At Football Beyond Borders, we exist as an education and social inclusion charity working with schools in London and the North West, providing disengaged young people with the skills and support networks that they need, using a passion for football as a catalyst. We prioritise education and strive to ensure that all young people have access to a good standard of education in a safe environment. Those who are most in need of support, or at risk of exclusion, are prioritised by FBB, creating relationships between young people in secondary education and our Practitioners during weekly sessions in the classroom and beyond, across a three year period. The One Show featured 14-year-old FBB participant, Jesse, who is currently signed to Ipswich Town F.C. He discussed a struggle to balance school life with a football career prior to joining FBB and the positive impact he gained from our sessions."As soon as we had our first meeting and activity session [with FBB], I just loved it from there," Jesse said. The Football Beyond Borders team are delighted to be featured on these fundamental issues, alongside organisations, such as Hackney Wick F.C. Our approach in using football to work with young people that require support continues to grow as we push to ensure that vital skills and grades are achieved during adolescence.Viewers applauded the work of FBB during the segment and we are grateful to have been given the chance to showcase our work on the BBC.You can watch the full April 13 broadcast of The One Show HERE: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000v4m7
